Final Show at Broadway Theater's 2009 Season: IT HAD TO BE YOU

Thursday, 05 November 2009 08:24

By Owner/Director Randall Hickman

Renee Taylor (Emmy nominated for her role as Fran Dresher’s Mother in ‘The Nanny’), and actor-husband Joseph Bologna met back in 1965 and were married on the Merv Griffin Show that same year. They have been together ever since.

The duo have written dozens of plays, but arguably their most successful is their loosely based autobiographical “It Had to Be You,” coming to Vista’s Broadway Theater, Nov. 19, as the final production in the theater’s 2009 season.

“This play is a sweet, funny, complicated look at the lengths a woman will go to ‘have it all,” said Randall Hickman.

A combination of Grade B Hollywood fluff and fairy-tale fantasy, "It Had to Be You" is the story of how Theda Blau, an unemployed health nut, masseuse and aspiring playwright finally says ‘enough is enough’ and takes charge of her life.

With her acting career and finances in the toilet, she’s got nothing left to lose, and then (on Christmas Eve), she meets ‘the one,’ the man she knows she is meant to be with; Vito Pignoli. Without wasting a moment,  Blau tricks Pignoli into going to her apartment and refuses to let him leave until he realizes that they are meant to be together.

Hickman concludes, “This play is filled with so much humor. The lengths that Theda goes to to keep Vito in that apartment make for a great night of theater. Bring a loved one, you’ll be glad you did.”

In the roles of Theda Blau and Victor Pignoli are two of the Broadway Theater’s favorite actors; Deja Blue Ginsberg and Kenneth Gray.

“It Had to Be You” plays Nov. 19 through Dec. 20, In Vista’s Broadway Theater.
 Thursday through Saturday: 7:30 p.m. / Saturday and Sunday: 2 p.m.

Seating is reserved. All seats $16.50.
