“SuperHealth was written to give the reader the best chance of living a long, healthy life with the goal of having one’s health span equal their lifespan,” Pratt said. “The six-week program discussed in this book incorporates all of the lifestyle choices, including environmental, and super-food choices one will need to achieve this easy-to-follow plan.”
Pratt firmly believes that diseases that invade “modern man” may very well be eliminated through a pragmatic process. This healthy pathway points toward a positive lifestyle and fine nutrition. SuperHealth choices, as Pratt refers to it, may also be quite beneficial for those already living with a particular disease.
“It is important to remember that no more than 25-percent of our longevity span is related to genes, with the rest directly related to lifestyle choices and diet,” he said. “In SuperHealth, we even show the reader how to influence those same genes by environmental, lifestyle and dietary choices.”
SuperHealth provides people direction and hope for a better way of life, according to Pratt. Incorporating an organic diet into one’s lifestyle remains ideal. Realizing that buying organic may not be cost effective for some, Pratt said it’s important to still consume fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains.
“These [foods] provide our body with the necessary nutrients to de-toxify many of the environmental pollutants to which we are exposed to every day,” he said. “And don’t forget to buy houseplants which pull up to 75-percent of the toxins out of a room in your home – remember, think globally, but act locally.”
Pratt said there are two methods to achieve human longevity: caloric restriction and physical activity. Numerous studies have revealed the connection between physical movement and a person’s lifespan. Humans have been and always will be, “born to move.”
“Historically, a person died of starvation or other bad things happened if that person was not physically active; the normal biological state of humans is to be physically fit,” Pratt said. Pratt’s medical expertise is in the fields of ophthalmology, ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery, refractive surgery and holistic medicine. He has private offices both at the La Jolla Scripps Campus and in Escondido.
SuperHealth marks Pratt’s fourth novel. His debut piece, and a New York Times best seller, SuperFoodsRx, was published in 2004. Today, it has been translated into 24 different languages.
“It has been a real privilege to speak to audiences all over the world on how to achieve SuperHealth,” he said. “It really is so simple, and it won’t break anyone’s piggy bank.” By adopting the SuperHealth program, Pratt says, it will do the body a whole lot of good. “Hopefully, [readers] will feel as good as I do, and they will wonder why they did not incorporate these readily achievable choices into their life sooner,” he said.
Pratt’s mission for his previous books, and now in SuperHealth, is to offer a better way of life and health for people and the planet. Without a healthy environment, Pratt said, one will be unable to reach a maximum state of SuperHealth. “It is so simple and life is so much better when you are in the SuperHealth zone.”
