| Dixon Lake Trout Derby Around Corner |

By Sue Evarts, Daley Ranch/Dixon Lake The 31st annual Dixon Lake Trout Derby will be held this year for 5 days, beginning Nov. 11 and running through Nov. 15. Gates will open at 6 a.m. for avid fishermen and novices as well. To enter, each fisherman must purchase a daily permit normally required to fish the lake ($7 adults, $5 for kids under 16 and seniors over 60). Adults 16 and over must also have a California fishing license. There is no additional charge to enter the derby. Bring the entire family for a great time at this year’s derby. To make the event competitive for the beginner as well as the skilled angler, there are a variety of ways to win: the largest trout of the derby, the largest in each age category (senior, adult, and youth), the first and second largest trout of each day, the smallest trout of the derby, and for the first 15 trout brought in that have a plastic clip on their dorsal fin. Large trout and great fishing has been the hallmark of this derby. The Grand Prize winner of last years’ contest tipped the scales at 7.5 pounds, and 10 trout weighed in at more than 6 pounds. The top winning Rainbow Trout at 18 of the past 24 derbies have all weighed more than 8 pounds. Fish must be measured and weighed during derby hours, 6 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., on the day they are caught. Since contestants can win only one prize, chances of being a winner are excellent. For further information, contact the Dixon Lake ranger staff at 760-839-4680 or www.dixonlake.com. |
